A new project of a touristic recreation area is planned to be put in action in the capital. It is going to be a pedestrian-bicycle route, which will extend from Kiev Pechersk Lavra to Sofia square and then, descending by Andrei slope – to Podil.
The original idea is to create the united ten kilometer-long way throughout Dnieper steeps, which at the moment are almost not equipped with the necessary infrastructure such as footpaths and bikeways, coffee houses, benches, 24 hours lightning, Wi-Fi access points and other service. The Kontraktova and Poshtova squares, including the linking Sagaidachnovo street are to become fully pedestrian as well.
It is not just possible to create a pedestrian area in Kiev – it is indispensable. The necessary money and terms are not clearly known up today. The pedestrian way can be settled from Kiev Pechersk Lavra along the Park road, through Kreshaty Park and Volodymyrska Hill, which are also to be restored. After that, one can reach the Podil with a cable car or following Andrei slope. The Sofia square is not set to become a wholly pedestrian area (a road-crossing will be necessary) yet it’ll become a part of the recreation zone. The Poshtova square is already on reconstruction, and so Sagaidachnovo street is going to be blocked or become a one-way road.
