Monument to Bogdan Khmelnytsky in Kiev is a cenotaph to Ukrainian historical and to the politician leader, hetman Bogdan Khmelnytsky. It was solemnly open on the 11th of July, 1888 on Sofiyskaya Square in Kiev within celebration of the 900 anniversary of the Christianization of Kievan Rus’. It is one of the symbols of Kiev, the monument of art of the XIX century.
The composition of a memorial compares favourably with dynamism. There is a symbol in a sharp stop of a foamy horse by the horseback rider: the courageous commander as if interrupts prompt movement to show people who gathered on the square, to the north-east (on Sofiyskaya Square, on December 23, 1648 inhabitants of Kiev met Bogdan Khmelnytsky and the Cossack regiments after a victory under Pilyavtsi). The indestructible will of the strong personality is felt in the imperious taming of the horse, with resolutely raised right hand and a mace turned to the people.
