Park of Eternal Glory (former names: Anosovsky garden, Commandant’s garden) is a park in Kiev, situated on the top and middle Dnieper terraces between Lavrskaya Street and Dneprovsky descent. From the South it is limited by shaft of the Old Kyiv Pechersk fortress (citadel), the lower part of park adjoins Askoldov’s grave, one of the historical districts. Main entrance is from Slava Square. It includes the Memorial of Eternal Glory with a monument on a grave of the Unknown soldier, the Memorial of memory of Famine-Genocide victims in Ukraine. The area covers the territory about 18,37 hectares.
The park consists of two contrast on character parts, skillfully connected together: the top plateau with wood and shrubby plantings from the edge of which the panorama of Dnieper opens and the Left bank, and wide orchestra with grassy lawns on the Dnieper slopes, lined by the twisting ladders leading to the bottom walking road, laid across a relief and separated from Dnieper descent with the coulisse of trees . The structure of the orchestra provided disclosure of ensemble of Kievo-Pechersky Lavra from the side of the descent. The park on the top of the plateau shares on memorial (northern) part and a zone of walks and rest (southern). The memorial part has a beam structure of planning with a convergence of three avenues to a main entrance on Slava Square; southern part is designated by insignificant differences of a relief levels (the remains of an embankment of the former glacis) — crossy composition of the plan with a round glade and a bed in the center. The regular planning network is completed with curvilinear paths, in particular with the viewing one with three rounded-off observation decks on the edge of the plateau.
Both parts are planted and arranged well: in the memorial there are green fences of a short-haired hornbeam and rhythmically planted fir-trees along the Alley of hero towns and a paving plates of gray granite; in the southern part there is free placement of trees and bushes and a covering of alleys and paths with modern figured elements of a paving (so-called fems). The low fencing of park is made of granite blocks with a rough surface. Along the avenue which is parallel to Lavrskaya Street, and on the southern lawn semicircular in its plan benches for rest are established (a brick basis with wooden laths for sitting). Lamps of lighting are made in the form of low vertical cylinders from metal and plexiglas (in the top part). At the bottom of the Spassky bastion of the Kyiv Pechersk citadel and near Askoldov’s graves some playgrounds are equipped.
Landscapes of the park compare favourably with their picturesqueness. Maples, lindens, birches, elms, poplars, fir-trees, willows, oaks pyramidal and other breeds of trees are grown here; also such bushes as an amphora, a jasmine, a lilac, a forzition etc. Can be found here.
The park of Eternal Glory relates to the best mountain parks of Kiev.
