Monument to Taras Shevchenko in Kiev is a cenotaph to the Ukrainian poet and artist Taras Shevchenko in Kiev, it issituated in the park, opposite to the Red housing of the Kiev university. It is one of the symbols of modern Kiev. It is established in 1939 due to the date of the 125 anniversary since the birth of the poet. The memorial to Nikolay I, standing on its place, was dismantled by Bolsheviki in 1920 and melted at Arsenal plant.
